The Unbearable Vexation of Being.

A day in this city means running into about 5 complete strangers that I want to yell at for their appalling behavior, utter lack of common sense, and/or general misconduct. It takes a lot of restraint and a good portion of one's strength to suppress that urge, because it is irrational to complain about such things in this country. When being unreasonable, ignorant, and ill-behaved is socially acceptable, what can one do? And the suppression is exhausting. One must not have to live like this. A life of being in a constant state of anger and the need to scream one's lungs out. Delhi, I love you. But you're wearing me down.

Erm, did the daily metro ride contribute to any of this?

At least you bump into "strangers" who make you feel that way. Here, in Cal I often bump into people I know in some way who evoke the same reaction.

The irrationality is ubiquitous, trust me! :)

@Antara: This post was written as a text message during a metro commute. That explains it all, I suppose.

@soin: You obviously have never had the displeasure of seeing the state-of-affairs in east delhi. Believe me, that will turn your statement around on its head.

@Kroswami: I have reasons to believe that you too are no stranger to daily metro rides. No wonder.

@Rahul Saha: Familiarity breeds contempt. You eventually come to expect it. It's the continuous barrage from strangers that I find worse. But then, maybe it's because the strangers are the only ones I look towards for some solace. That exercise is fairly pointless in Delhi. More so than elsewhere.

@JD: So I see. :) Isn't that a pity?

The only solution to this is to program every human beings to behave in single set of control with If's and While's. And this will affect the basic freedom(read freedom to some set of people is doing whatever they want even if it offends others..they don't have my pity) of human beings! So expecting good things will hurt.
Do what other normal Indian will do..expect the worst and you would love your place even if it is worst place to travel! :((
