Once in an odd while...

Random acts of kindness by complete strangers leave me shaken and stirred. Such things don't fit into my view of the world.

And then, there are times when I wish I could believe them.

Truer words have not been spoken. :)
In the middle of the busy, indifferent world, you meet somebody so nice, that your perspective changes. :)

Someday, I will stalk you and meet you without telling you who I am. Then I will treat you to ice-cream. Then, I will observe you.

@ Clezevra: I wonder if there exists a superlative to that.

@ Sugar Magnolia: It's taking me a while to get used to your new screen name. :)

@ soin: Well, lets just say that's not the sort of kindness I'm talking about.

@ Srishti: I wish that were the case. My perspective only develops momentary static, and goes back to being the black-and-white screen it was previously.

@ Death On Two Legs: Good as a social experiment. I fear for your safety though. Make sure I don't pepper spray you.

Or make use of the caustic tongue that suspicion gives me.

It doesnt even take a random act of kindness. Sometimes a a stranger's smile is all it takes to get me wondering if the world's really changing for the better.

But then I shake my head and put the thought out of my mind.

A stranger once helped me when my friend fainted while traveling in the metro.

I was so visibly shocked that some people actually wondered if he was in fact molesting us. It happens. We're all cynical.

Chivalry embarrasses me. And yet, I wish it were more common...
Also, I am never left shaken for that long. All one must do is wait a heartbeat to observe something which follows more correctly the normal order of things.
Ah! 'Normalcy'!

@ Tangled up in blue: ...while maintaining the grim tight-lipped poker face we walk through life with.

At times, I think my face just might turn to wood one of these days. I'm not sure if that would be a bad thing.

@ Anty: Well, that would be a freak of nature. The time a guy did try to get a little too cozy with me on the metro, I yelled and created a scene. The shocker? Instead of staring at him or adding to his humiliation, people diverted their glances elsewhere. Even the women. Stared at the floor like it was them who should be ashamed. Guess what. They should.

Sherry Wasandi said...

@ Kirra Serra: Chivalry is charming. On occasion, and from the right person though. But here, I was just talking about more generic stuff. Like random people reaching out to you when even your closest friends aren't quite there to do the job.

And you... are so right. Things fall right into place soon enough. But still, an odd kink stands out.

3 reasons for kindness:::
Selfishness
Fear
Actual kindness

i know ur not talking of that sort..just that for someone whos quite smoking and feels the urge after three years to smoke in heavy rains, caught up in some shack and gets a free fag, that too from a girl..it sorts of translates to me what it is to u..free

@ He-who-is-not-named: How about the logic that says, be nice to people you like, don't bother with the ones you don't, and never confuse the two?

@ soin: Ha. The point is certainly more lucid that way.
