The present is never static.
It moves with time itself.

It must, after all
hold on to today
for the fear of tomorrow.

If present was not afraid of tomorrow, it would rather run ahead of time and ahead of today to embrace it. That would make it even less static. So fear of tomorrow doesn't fit why it is not static.

If it were static, present would become yesterday. So it moves for the fear of yesterday I guess.

Or am I totally missing the point?

Point: Proof that I am no longer capable of writing anything even moderately interesting.

Besides the point: My present is currently refusing to move forward, because of that very same fear. Today, on the other hand, is always a different day. So the graph cites several todays and no real tomorrows. A simultaneous drag-and-protest. That's all.

Also besides the point: Any mention of time always makes me think of the opening lines of Burnt Norton. Fabulous piece of work, that.
