These almosts.. I think,
have a knack for quiet.
I tell you, they are muted taciturns.
Unkind, almost.
The fault, I believe
is not their own.
Disappointment, after all
was never clamorous.
Settles in melancholy,
breeds in silence.
It rained today.
Well, it almost did.
The sky did turn gray.
Winds did blow.
Birds did crow.
But that's the thing about almosts.
Almosts and half-promises.
Uncertain. Dangling in between..
of is and isn'ts,
of have and have-nots.
And among losses,
of an entirely different sort.

I was keeping an eye out for the name of some familiar poet at the end of this verse. :P
Absolutely beautiful. Puts into words what I've been feeling lately, strangely enough. Love it. Will read a few more times now.
Thank you. I occasionally surprise myself. :)
And strangely enough, it did rain right after. Still is.. raining. cats and dogs and several unidentified pentadactyles.
After a few more readings: This however is not an almost. It's perfect.
that was amazing! perhaps the best description of a disappointing monsoon season i have ever come across, brilliant work.
@ Mercurial maiden : Did anyone ever tell you that you are way too nice? :)
@ Madhur : Glad you think so. It's not just the rain I'm talking about..
yeah, i was able to figure that out in the second reading.
:)
Beautiful poem.
Forgive me, but I am going to be OCD and first point out that an ellipsis has three dots not two.
That said, this is a brilliant piece of work. I like the faintly distant tone that runs through it - part conversational, part melancholic.
Keep writing.
@ NoThiNG but "fiCUs" : Thanks.
@ chittz : Good that you pointed it out. But I just lose the will to be "propahh" sometimes.. (Yep, again)
Glad you dropped by. And I will.
I don't know how I missed this one.. I would have certainly relished it more had I read it at the right time, but then the best thing about beautiful things is- anytime is a good time to enjoy them!
Keep churning out more. :-)
With the response I'm getting, I think my days of inflicting poetry on the unsuspecting audience are going to last a long long time.
Never imagined I could be this sappy.
:) Thanks.
