Ingmar Bergman is incomparable. Brilliant direction + brilliant scripts = Beautiful, beautiful movies. Right from Through a Glass Darkly, The Silence, and Wild Strawberries to the one up there, all of his works have a certain quality that I have never chanced upon anywhere else. There are layers to every story, and there's always so much more than what meets the eye.
Go watch, if you haven't already. You have no idea of what you're missing.

well thanks for sharing , But Patience seems to be running out in these tech days :P
I've seen "The Seventh Seal", "Persona" and "Through a Glass Darkly" so far.
I often wondered what it was about Bergman's moviemaking that sort of made it possible to see the insides of people's minds without using words really. And I realised it was becoz words themselves are often not enuff. So he looked for something that is enuff, thats what makes his movies so complete.
I hope I dont sound too incoherent. I kind of deleted my first comment coz I reread it and it didnt make sense. :D
But one more thing, his movies always seem to me, to be independent of moral absolutes, you know. Thats why that particular quote seemed oddly significant to me.
After watching The Seventh Seal in junior college, I always kinda wondered if he was a religious man, becoz of all the obvious symbolism he used.
But then I read that when asked the same question he replied, "I hope I dont live to get so old, that I get religious."

And yeah, 12 Angry Men is pretty cool, too! Its like number 9 on imdb's 100 greatest movies of all time or something..

Oh yes, he was amazing. I love the way you feel the need to watch his movies over and over because you feel you haven't spotted every thing he symbolized.
And also the way his style has inspired so many others to produce works of brilliance as well.
I wish these were available around here..

Also, the question it deals with, is one that hounds me ever so often.
Makes perfect sense. :) I'm quite certain it's impossible for you to be incoherent. You have a skill for bringing clarity and preciseness to everything you write.
And 12 Angry Men, of course, is great.
But I have a far stronger liking for the ones I mentioned here.
